Ed Silverton cycled to the newsagents this morning and overtook an old lady on a bike.

He told the newsagent that he's pleased with his form and the speed is coming back.

Unfortunately, on the way back the old lady got her second wind and gracefully pedalled up a shallow climb that left Ed gasping for air.

Despite hearing her coming a mile off because of her creaking shopping basket filled with groceries, Ed was unable to counter her smooth acceleration as he watched her bent rear mudguard disappear up the road.

While admiring the sky from his horizontal position in a near by park, Ed told anyone who would listen that...

'I felt good today when leaving the house, but the mileage was just a bit too much in the end. I haven't trained for these distances and unfortunately, the old lady had me on the climb. I think I may have over done it yesterday when I walked the dog for a bit longer than usual. I'm amazed at that woman's speed up hills, it must be genetic, maybe she's Spanish or something... '
