Race Report by Richard Pettinger Sri Chinmoy Cycling Team

The previous day I took part in a 20 mile Time Trial in Milton Keynes. It was a fairly hilly course and there were many good time triallists including Michael Hutchinson, the current British Time trial Champion. Hutchinson won in a time of 43 mins, I was 3 minutes behind in a time of 46 mins.

On my second lap I got caught by second place Michael Broadwith. It was actually very helpful, when you have some one to aim for it makes you try much harder. I could see him in the distance for the rest of the 10 miles.

The 25 mile TT on Sunday 23rd April  was organised by Oxonians CC. I am a second claim member of the club and know many of the riders well. The only drawback was the race started at 7am and it was still pretty cold. I felt quite tired from the day before and struggled to get my heart rate high. However I was pleased with my time which was a new personal best by 1” 30’

The rider in front of me was the former National Champion John Woodburn. John won the 25 Mile title back in 1961. He is now 68 but he still came fourth!

Luckily I was able to get my bike checked at the Oxford Cycle Workshop the day before. The owner Tom found many wrong things with my set up which he managed to fix. So I was very grateful to be able to race without my handlebars or wheels coming loose for a change.
